Marmara Municipalities Union Joins the Global Alliance for Care
What is the Global Alliance for Care
Launched in 2021 as part of the Generation Equality Forum’s Action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights, the Global Alliance for Care is a multi-stakeholder platform led by UN Women and INJUMERES. It was established in response to the increased demand for care following the COVID-19 pandemic and advocates for care to be recognized as a need, a job, and a right.
The Alliance fosters collaboration between governments, local authorities, civil society, academia, trade unions, and the private sector to support the development and implementation of care policies. A key aim is to promote gender equality in the care economy and beyond.
It facilitates knowledge exchange, peer learning, and the spread of effective policies and practices, while also advocating for a stronger care agenda both locally and globally. At its core, the Alliance promotes care as a driver of social transformation.
Membership is free and open to national governments, local authorities, NGOs, charities, international organizations, academic institutions, and private sector actors. With 207 members to date – including 22 municipalities and major organizations such as UCLG, Metropolis, JICA, UN Women, Islamic Relief Pakistan, and the ILO – MMU is the first institution from Türkiye to join the Alliance.
