Highlighting Local Governments’ Climate Action at COP29

The session "Cities Leading Climate Action: Empowering Urban Resilience and Innovation" will be held on 20 November 2024 at the Republic of Türkiye Pavilion during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Organized by the Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU), the event emphasizes the critical role of local governments in addressing climate change. It will feature mayors sharing insights on resilience, innovation, zero waste, urban transformation, and women’s leadership in climate action.

Mustafa Bozbey, President of MMU and Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, will deliver a keynote speech focusing on Bursa’s contributions to the “Green Cities” network. In his talk, titled "Green City Initiatives and Preparing Cities for the Impacts of Climate Change," Bozbey will highlight the city's efforts to enhance urban sustainability and climate resilience.

The session will include distinguished speakers discussing various themes:

Oktay Yılmaz, Mayor of Yıldırım Municipality: "Supporting Climate Adaptation through Urban Transformation"

Moderated by MMU Secretary General Dr. M. Cemil Arslan, the session aims to showcase innovative local solutions and strategies for combating climate change.
