Tahir Büyükakın
President of Marmara Municipalities Union

Büyükakın became the sixteenth President of Marmara Municipalities Union after being elected as President at the 1st Ordinary Assembly Meeting of 2019 held on April 25, 2019, on the 44th Anniversary of the Marmara Municipalities Union.

Biography

He was born in 1969 in Derince, Kocaeli. Büyükakın completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Public Administration of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University, and completed his master’s and doctoral studies at the same university.

He started his academic studies as a research assistant at Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Department of Economics of Kocaeli University in 1993, in the Department of Economic Policy, continued studying in the Politics of Economics Department and carried out studies in areas such as “economic crises and stability policies” and “macroeconomics”. He was granted the title of associate professor in 2013.

Between 2005 and 2014, he served as Consultant, Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General at Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. He was appointed to Bilecik Governorship in June 2017. At Local Elections on 31 March 2019, he was elected as the Kocaeli Metropolitan Mayor.
